How to get your email rejected by OWLS


  1. (access denied) Send your mail with a return address that does not exist.

  2. (unknown user) Send a message to someone who doesn't have an account at OWLS.

  3. (access denied) Lie to us during a mail server session. Tell us that you're us. We know who we are and you're not us.

  4. (open relay) Try to send mail to someone in a domain not served by OWLS without authorizing by POP or IMAP first. Only authenticated users can relay mail through OWLS. Just check your mail before sending and everything should work fine.

  5. (access denied) Get your IP address added to a spam block blacklist.

  6. (access denied) Send mail from yahoo.com from some place other than yahoo.com's mail server. This also works for AOL, Hotmail and Earthlink.


How to get your email quarantined by OWLS


  1. Send a message to an OWLS account holder that contains an executable attachment. A message is sent in place of the original that describes the message we received and how to move it to your inbox if you feel it is a message you want. Messages left in quarantine are rechecked nightly for viruses. We update our virus data files every hour, 24 hours a day. Sometimes a fast spreading virus message will arrive before the scanner software knows about them. Since these messages contain an executable attachment, they will be quarantined. If a message is found to have a virus when we recheck it, it will be removed from quarantine and made unavailable to you. If you do not move a message for 14 days, it is considered abandoned and will be removed from the mail server.


How to get your email deleted by OWLS


  1. Send a message to someone with an OWLS account that contains a known virus attachment.

  2. Attempt to send messages to someone else through OWLS that contains a known virus attachment. We scan both inbound and outbound messages for virus.
