We have installed several new programs that are designed to help eliminate
email containing virus attachments and other possible malicious content. You may
begin to see our ALERT messages explaining what has been done.
- Virus Infected Email
Messages that are received and processed by our mail server are scanned
for known virus. Any message found to be infected with a virus is
automatically removed from further processing. An Alert message is delivered
to you in its place which shows all the information we know about who sent
the message.
- Executable Attachments
Messages that have executable attachments that do not contain a known
virus are set aside for you to handle individually. It is generally a very
hazardous practice to send executable files via email attachments. Executing
unknown programs on your machine could have disastrous results. To help you
in determining the validity and safety of executable attachments, we send an
alert message in place of the original email. The Alert message shows all
the information we know about who sent the file. It also contains a link to
a special URL. If you are expecting the file and want your message placed
into your inbox unchanged, just click on the URL and the original message
will be placed into your inbox.
- This service is "on" by default, but can be turned off if you
wish.
